My Review
This is only my 2nd book of Jill’s, the first being the one made into a movie, The Trouble with Mistletoe. Both of which are part of the same series, and both of which I loved. They aren’t the typical steamy over the top romance I usually read, but they both still have their moments and this one had an extra special uniqueness to it. I mean, two characters brought together when they both rescue a dog during a storm. What is not to love about two animal loving people, who share that desire to save and protect.
This story follows Sadie and Caleb. Both in the right place at the right time. Co-rescue a dog together, and from there things just begin to build. I will admit that Sadie was a hard to love character immediately, but with time and more of her past revealed, you see her soften a bit in a way and understand her wall she has up. Caleb is just as vulnerable, but their connection builds throughout the story and as you learn about their pasts, their future becomes clear. They truly are meant to be. I feel the best part of this book was the story of the animals mixed in. Small snippets that foreshadow things and show just how loving animals can be. Mix in a little drama from there, and a sprinkling of angst, and this book takes a few turns in directions you just must hope doesn’t destroy the foundation these two have built.
What a great warm-hearted read that will leave you longing for more.
